| SUMO: The Guardian of the Proteome |
Review Article
- Sumoylation is a novel post-translational modification system that has been the object of intense interest in recent years. Analogous to ubiquitin,
reversible covalent attachment of SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) to lysine residues in substrate proteins alters the properties of the proteins to which SUMO conjugates. The proteomic implications of protein sumoylation are reviewed in this article. Read Full Article |

Ets-related Transcription Factor ERM is Sumoylated by SUMO-2/3 - A team from the University of Lille (France) led by Dr. J-L.
Baert described that the sumoylation of ERM by SUMO-2/3 inhibits
its transcription-enhancing activity. The study used Abgent's antibodies to SUMO-1 (Cat # 1222a)
and Sumo-2/3 (Cat # 1224a).

Innovative Research with Long Synthetic Peptides |
Featured Article - Over the past 20 years peptides have been identified as a
promising source for pharmaceutical drug candidates. However, the manufacturing challenges that peptide chemists faced have impeded the widespread development of peptides. Novel synthesis strategies have tempered the
resources required to achieve efficient and economically viable methods of preparing longer and difficult peptides. This article reviews the latest advanced chemistries for manufacturing long peptides successfully.

Q: Why the antigen retrieval protocol is so important to obtain a good IHC staining?
A: Epitope exposure can be pH dependent, with the large majority of epitopes showing increased retrieval with increasing pH. An increase of pH from 6 to 9 can give a four-fold enhancement in
staining for some epitopes. Tris/EDTA is a good high-pH antigen retrieval buffer for IHC. For more IHC protocol tips, visit www.ihcworld.com Product Application: Check out our latest product citations.
Tip: Want to find out what modification enzymes are expressed in a tissue? Check out our Tissue Target index on page 293 of Abgent catalog for an indexed list of proteins expressed in specific tissues.
