|Target/Specificity||Rabbit anti-Human Uncoupling Protein 4 antibody recognizes human mitochondrial uncoupling protein 4, also known as uncoupling Protein 4, UCP 4, Solute carrier family 25 member 27 or SLC25A27. Uncoupling protein 4 is a 323 amino acid, ~36kDa multiple pass, inner mitochondrial transmembrane protein bearing three Solcar repeats (UniProt: O95847)Uncoupling protein expression appears to be primarily associated with mitochondria of the central nervous syatem, with no protein being found in a number of peripheral organs when tested in immunohistochemistry, or western blotting in mice and rats. In mice uncoupling protein 4 appears in early to mid embryonic development coinciding with the initiation of neuronal differentiation and expression in mitochondria decreases with age, hinting at a possible role in neuronal differentiation (Smorodchenkoet al.2009). UCP4 facilitates the dissipation of heat across the inner mitochondrial membrane, by leaking protons across the membrane and uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation from ATP synthesis (Maoet al.1999), the action of uncoupling protein 4 increasing proton concentration in the mitochondrial matrix may thus serve to increase ATP production by the class II complex (Hoet al.2012). UCP4 is understood to be involved in thermoregulatory heat production and metabolism in brain.|
