|Target/Specificity||Mouse anti Human MMP-9 antibody, clone 2C3 recognizes human matrix metalloproteinase 9, also known as MMP-9, 92kDa gelatinase or gelatinase B. MMP-9 is a 707 ~92kDa amino acid pro form of the ~82kDa active form of a zinc-dependent endopeptidase responsible for degrading the extracellular matrix (Duncanet al.1998). MMP-9 contains 3 fibronectin type II domains and 4 hemopexin-likerepeats. MMPs are also involved in cell proliferation, migration, differentiation and apoptosis (Vaillantet al.2003). Most MMPs are synthesised as inactive zymogens and a propeptide region must be cleaved off before the enzyme becomes active. Their expression is increased dramatically in a variety of cancer types, where it indicates invasive disease and a poor prognosis. MMP-9 is a gelatinase, cleaving type IV collagen and gelatin. The gelatinases have an additional gelatin-binding domain inserted in the catalytic domain (Roebet al.2002). MMP-9, alongside other MMPs, plays a role in normal tissue remodeling such as embryonic development, ovulation, mammary gland involution and wound healing. It is important in the early stages of tumor invasion as it degrades the type IV collagen in the basement membrane (Fanet al.2012).Mouse anti Human MMP-9 antibody, clone 2C3 recognizes an epitope in the C-terminal domain of MMP-9 present in both the active and proform of the molecule.|
