Protein Information
Name Cxcl1
Synonyms Gro, Gro1, Mgsa, Scyb1
Function Has chemotactic activity for neutrophils. Contributes to neutrophil activation during inflammation (By similarity). Hematoregulatory chemokine, which, in vitro, suppresses hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation. KC(5-72) shows a highly enhanced hematopoietic activity.

KC, a homolog of human and hamster gro/MGSA, is a 72-amino acid CXC chemokine originally cloned from rat macrophages and lung tissue. It is the mediator for recruitment and activation of netrophils in rat lung inflammation models. Expression of KC can be upregulated by LPS and IL-1β stimulation. IFN-g blocks LPS-induced expression of KC.
