Can also transduce IFNB signals without the help of IFNAR2, and not activating the Jak-STAT pathway.|

|Tissue Location||IFN receptors are present in all tissues and even on the surface of most IFN-resistant cells. Isoform 1, isoform 2 and isoform 3 are expressed in the IFN-alpha sensitive myeloma cell line U266B1. Isoform 2 and isoform 3 are expressed in the IFN-alpha resistant myeloma cell line U266R. Isoform 1 is not expressed in IFN-alpha resistant myeloma cell line U266R|

Interferon alpha receptor 1 (IFN-? R1) is a class II cytokine receptor that belongs to the type I human interferons (IFNs) family. IFNs plays a role in antiviral, antiproliferative, immunomodulatory, antitumor, and antiparasitic activities by inducing transcription of IFN-stimuated genes (ISGs) through activation of the Jak-STAT pathway. Specifically, IFN- ? R1 is a 135-kDa signal transducing subunit of the IFN alpha/beta receptor complex (IFN-? R) (1). IFN-? R1 is phosphorylated through PTK- and PKC-mediated phosphorylation, which initiates docking of STAT proteins to IFNs. This leads to activation of STAT proteins by PTK-mediated phosphorylation. The mechanism behind the amplification of IFN-? R complex mediated transmembrane signaling has been linked to tyrosine phosphorylation on IFN-? R1 (2).
