|Other Names||Alpha-internexin, Alpha-Inx, 66 kDa neurofilament protein, NF-66, Neurofilament-66, Neurofilament 5, INA, NEF5|
|Target/Specificity||A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues in the tail domain of human NF-66 was used as immunogen.|
|Format||50 mM Tris-Glycine (pH 7.4), 0.15 M NaCl, 40% Glycerol, 0.01% sodium azide and 0.05% BSA.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.|
|Precautions||Neurofilament-66 Antibody is for research use only and not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||Class-IV neuronal intermediate filament that is able to self-assemble. It is involved in the morphogenesis of neurons. It may form an independent structural network without the involvement of other neurofilaments or it may cooperate with NF-L to form the filamentous backbone to which NF-M and NF-H attach to form the cross-bridges.|
|Tissue Location||Found predominantly in adult CNS.|

Neurofilaments (NF) are cytoplasmic intermediate filaments (IFs) found in neurons. NF-66, also known as α-internexin, is a member of the IF family. Classified as a type IV IF, NF-66 is expressed by most neurons and has been shown to co-assemble with other NF triple proteins (light, medium and heavy NF) (1-2). In the adult brain, NF-66 is expressed at relatively low levels compared to the other NF proteins (3). NF-66 has also been shown to assemble into 10mm diameter IF in vitro.
