PrecautionsUDB17 Antibody (Center) is for research use only and not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Protein Information
Name UGT2B17 (HGNC:12547)
Function UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) that catalyzes phase II biotransformation reactions in which lipophilic substrates are conjugated with glucuronic acid to increase the metabolite's water solubility, thereby facilitating excretion into either the urine or bile (PubMed:8798464, PubMed:16595710, PubMed:18719240, PubMed:19022937, PubMed:23288867). Catalyzes the glucuronidation of endogenous steroid hormones such as androgens (epitestosterone, androsterone) and estrogens (estradiol, epiestradiol) (PubMed:8798464, PubMed:16595710, PubMed:18719240, PubMed:19022937, PubMed:23288867).
Cellular Location Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass membrane protein
Tissue Location Expressed in various tissues including the liver, kidney, testis, uterus, placenta, mammary gland, adrenal gland, skin and prostate.

Background

UGT2B17 belongs to the family of UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs; EC 2.4.1.17), enzymes that catalyze the transfer of glucuronic acid from uridine diphosphoglucuronic acid to a variety of substrates, including steroid hormones.
