This gene encodes an alpha-globulin protein withcorticosteroid-binding properties. This is the major transportprotein for glucorticoids and progestins in the blood of mostvertebrates. The gene localizes to a chromosomal region containingseveral closely related serine protease inhibitors which may haveevolved by duplication events.
