Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a regulatory proteininvolved in mitosis. The gene product complexes with p34(cdc2) toform the maturation-promoting factor (MPF). Two alternativetranscripts have been found, a constitutively expressed transcriptand a cell cycle-regulated transcript, that is expressedpredominantly during G2/M phase. The different transcripts resultfrom the use of alternate transcription initiation sites. [providedby RefSeq].
