|Other Names||Calcitonin gene-related peptide 1, Alpha-type CGRP, Calcitonin gene-related peptide I, CGRP-I, CALCA, CALC1|
|Format||Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C.|
|Precautions||This product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||CGRP induces vasodilation. It dilates a variety of vessels including the coronary, cerebral and systemic vasculature. Its abundance in the CNS also points toward a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator role. It also elevates platelet cAMP.|

This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin,calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specificalternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage ofinactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calciumregulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitoningene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator while katacalcin isa calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encodingdifferent isoforms have been found for this gene.
