The origin recognition complex (ORC) is a highly conservedsix subunit protein complex essential for the initiation of the DNAreplication in eukaryotic cells. Studies in yeast demonstrated thatORC binds specifically to origins of replication and serves as aplatform for the assembly of additional initiation factors such asCdc6 and Mcm proteins.
