PrecautionsThis product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Protein Information
Name ORC5
Synonyms ORC5L
Function Component of the origin recognition complex (ORC) that binds origins of replication. DNA-binding is ATP-dependent. The specific DNA sequences that define origins of replication have not been identified yet. ORC is required to assemble the pre- replication complex necessary to initiate DNA replication.
Cellular Location Nucleus.
Tissue Location Abundant in spleen, ovary, prostate, testis, and colon mucosa.

The origin recognition complex (ORC) is a highly conservedsix subunit protein complex essential for the initiation of the DNAreplication in eukaryotic cells. Studies in yeast demonstrated thatORC binds specifically to origins of replication and serves as aplatform for the assembly of additional initiation factors such asCdc6 and Mcm proteins. The protein encoded by this gene is asubunit of the ORC complex. Alternatively spliced transcriptvariants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [providedby RefSeq].
