Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a mitogen that issecreted by vascular endothelial cells. The encoded protein plays arole in chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation, celladhesion in many cell types, and is related to platelet-derivedgrowth factor. Certain polymorphisms in this gene have been linkedwith a higher incidence of systemic sclerosis. [provided byRefSeq].
