|Other Names||T-box transcription factor TBX21, T-box protein 21, T-cell-specific T-box transcription factor T-bet, Transcription factor TBLYM, TBX21, TBET, TBLYM|
|Format||Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C.|
|Precautions||This product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||Transcription factor that controls the expression of the TH1 cytokine, interferon-gamma. Initiates TH1 lineage development from naive TH precursor cells both by activating TH1 genetic programs and by repressing the opposing TH2 programs.|
|Tissue Location||T-cell specific.|

This gene is a member of a phylogenetically conservedfamily of genes that share a common DNA-binding domain, the T-box.T-box genes encode transcription factors involved in the regulationof developmental processes. This gene is the human ortholog ofmouse Tbx21/Tbet gene. Studies in mouse show that Tbx21 protein isa Th1 cell-specific transcription factor that controls theexpression of the hallmark Th1 cytokine, interferon-gamma (IFNG).Expression of the human ortholog also correlates with IFNGexpression in Th1 and natural killer cells, suggesting a role forthis gene in initiating Th1 lineage development from naive Thprecursor cells.
