|Other Names||T-cell surface glycoprotein CD4, T-cell surface antigen T4/Leu-3, CD4, CD4|
|Format||Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C.|
|Precautions||This product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||Accessory protein for MHC class-II antigen/T-cell receptor interaction. May regulate T-cell activation. Induces the aggregation of lipid rafts.|
|Cellular Location||Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein Note=Localizes to lipid rafts. Removed from plasma membrane by HIV-1 Nef protein that increases clathrin-dependent endocytosis of this antigen to target it to lysosomal degradation. Cell surface expression is also down-modulated by HIV-1 Envelope polyprotein gp160 that interacts with, and sequesters CD4 in the endoplasmic reticulum|

This gene encodes a membrane glycoprotein of T lymphocytesthat interacts with major histocompatibility complex class IIantigenes and is also a receptor for the human immunodeficiencyvirus. This gene is expressed not only in T lymphocytes, but alsoin B cells, macrophages, and granulocytes. It is also expressed inspecific regions of the brain. The protein functions to initiate oraugment the early phase of T-cell activation, and may function asan important mediator of indirect neuronal damage in infectious andimmune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system. Multiplealternatively spliced transcript variants encoding differentisoforms have been identified in this gene.
