Background
HOXD1 is a member of the Antp homeobox family andencodes a protein with a homeobox DNA-binding domain. This nuclearprotein functions as a sequence-specific transcription factor thatis involved in differentiation and limb development. Mutations inthis gene have been associated with severe developmental defects onthe anterior-posterior (a-p) limb axis.
