Background
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the innexinfamily. Innexin family members are the structural components of gapjunctions. This protein and pannexin 2 are abundantly expressed incentral nerve system (CNS) and are coexpressed in various neuronalpopulations. Studies in Xenopus oocytes suggest that this proteinalone and in combination with pannexin 2 may form celltype-specific gap junctions with distinct properties. [provided byRefSeq].
