Background
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the G-proteincoupled receptor family and acts as a receptor for oxytocin. Itsactivity is mediated by G proteins which activate aphosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. Theoxytocin-oxytocin receptor system plays an important role in theuterus during parturition.
