Background

This gene encodes a member of the M20 metalloproteasefamily. The encoded protein is specifically expressed in the brain,is a homodimeric dipeptidase which was identified as humancarnosinase. This gene contains trinucleotide (CTG) repeat lengthpolymorphism in the coding region.
