GPT (MIM 138200) and GPT2 (EC 126.96.36.199), also known asalanine transaminases, are pyridoxal enzymes that catalyze thereversible transamination between alanine and 2-oxoglutarate toform pyruvate and glutamate. By mediating the conversion of these 4major intermediate metabolites, these transaminases have roles ingluconeogenesis and in amino acid metabolism.
