This gene encodes a member of the tweety family ofproteins. Members of this family function as chloride anionchannels. The encoded protein functions as acalcium(2+)-independent, volume-sensitive large conductancechloride(-) channel. Two transcript variants encoding distinctisoforms have been identified for this gene.
