|Other Names||Protein quaking, Hqk, HqkI, QKI, HKQ|
|Target/Specificity||The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP2707b was selected from the C-term region of human QKI. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.|
|Format||Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C.|
|Precautions||This product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||RNA-binding protein that plays a central role in myelinization (PubMed:16641098). Binds to the 5'-NACUAAY-N(1,20)- UAAY-3' RNA core sequence. Regulates target mRNA stability (PubMed:23630077). In addition, acts by regulating pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export and protein translation. Required to protect and promote stability of mRNAs such as MBP and CDKN1B. Regulator of oligodendrocyte differentiation and maturation in the brain that may play a role in myelin and oligodendrocyte dysfunction in schizophrenia (PubMed:16641098). Participates in mRNA transport by regulating the nuclear export of MBP mRNA. Also involved in regulation of mRNA splicing of MAG pre-mRNA. Acts as a translational repressor (By similarity).|
|Cellular Location||Nucleus. Cytoplasm|
|Tissue Location||Expressed in the frontal cortex of brain. Down-regulated in the brain of schizophrenic patients|

QKI belongs to a family of RNA-binding proteins that have an HNRNPK homology (KH) domain embedded in a 200-amino acid region called the GSG domain. Other members of this family include SAM68 (KHDRBS1) and SF1.
