Background
SURF2 is located in the surfeit gene cluster, a group of very tightly linked genes that do not share sequence similarity. The gene shares a bidirectional promoter with SURF1, which is located on the opposite strand. The function of the encoded protein from this housekeeping gene has not yet been determined.
