Background
MESP2 is a member of the bHLH family oftranscription factors and plays a key role in defining therostrocaudal patterning of somites via interactions with multipleNotch signaling pathways. This gene is expressed in the anteriorpresomitic mesoderm and is downregulated immediately after theformation of segmented somites. This gene also plays a role in theformation of epithelial somitic mesoderm and cardiac mesoderm.
