|Other Names||Nicastrin, NCSTN, KIAA0253|
|Target/Specificity||The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP6303b was selected from the Center region of human NICA . A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.|
|Format||The synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml deionized water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C.|
|Precautions||This product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||Essential subunit of the gamma-secretase complex, an endoprotease complex that catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of integral membrane proteins such as Notch receptors and APP (beta- amyloid precursor protein). It probably represents a stabilizing cofactor required for the assembly of the gamma-secretase complex.|
|Cellular Location||Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Melanosome Note=Identified by mass spectrometry in melanosome fractions from stage I to stage IV|
|Tissue Location||Widely expressed.|

Nicastrin is a type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein that interacts with both presenilin-1 (PSEN1) and presenilin-2 (PSEN2) and has a central role in presenilin-mediated processing of beta-amyloid precursor protein (beta-APP) and some aspects of NOTCH/glp-1 signaling in vivo.
