Background
Z-VAD(OMe)-FMK is a cell permeable peptide which binds irreversibly to the catalytic site of intracellular enzymes known as caspases, which play an important role in the induction of apoptosis. The binding of Z-VAD(OMe)-FMK to caspases inhibits the activity of these proteases, so that these peptide compounds are commonly used to inhibit the progression of apoptosis in vitro.
