Target/Specificity | Rabbit anti-Human Erythrocyte Ankyrin antibody recognizes erythroid ankyrin (ankyrin-1), also known as ankyrin R or erythrocyte ankyrin. Ankyrin 1 is a 1881 amino acid ~220kDa cytoplasmic protein forming an attachment for a number of integral membrane proteins and cytoskeletal elements. Ankyrin-1 contains a large number of ankyrin repeats, a death domain and two ZU5 domains (UniProt: P16157).Multiple isoforms of ankyrin-1 are generated by alternative splicing and promptor usage, Rabbit anti-Human Erythrocyte Ankyrin antibody is expected to recognize all erythrocyte isoforms of ankyrin-1 but is not expected to recognize the N-terminally truncated muscle isoforms of ankyrin-1. Additionally Rabbit anti-Human Erythrocyte Ankyrin antibody is likely to cross react with ankyrin-1 from chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) and lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla). Most ankyrins are composed of 3 structural domains; a N-terminal regulatory domain containing multiple ankyrin repeats, a central spectrin binding domain and a C-terminal regulatory domain. Ankyrin-1 is present in erythrocytes and has also been found in brain and muscle. Mutations in erythrocytic ankyrin-1 are associated with hereditary spherocytosis (Eberet al.1996). |
