|Target/Specificity||Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), is 30kDa neurotrophic factor and member of the cysteine knot superfamily of growth factors. GDNF binds GDNF alpha receptor which leads to the activation of Ret protein tyrosine kinase receptor, promoting dopamine uptake and the survival and morphological differentiation of midbrain neurons. GDNF has been shown to improve conditions such as bradykinesia, rigidity and postural instability in Parkinson’s disease mouse models. Defects in the GDNF gene may cause Hirschsprung disease and congenital central hypoventilation syndrome.|
