Protein Information
Name Fbxo32
Function Substrate recognition component of a SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F- box protein) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex which mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins. Probably recognizes and binds to phosphorylated target proteins during skeletal muscle atrophy. Recognizes TERF1 (By similarity).
Cellular Location Cytoplasm. Nucleus. Note=Shuttles between Cytoplasm and the nucleus
Tissue Location Specifically expressed in cardiac and skeletal muscle

Atrogin-1 (Atr1) is also known as Muscle Atrophy F-box (MAFbx). It is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that initiates ATPdependent ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis and promotes muscle atrophy. MAFbx is approximately a 43kDa protein.
