Background
GTP-binding proteins, or G proteins, constitute asuperfamily capable of binding GTP or GDP. G proteins are activatedby binding GTP and are inactivated by hydrolyzing GTP to GDP. Thisgeneral mechanism enables G proteins to perform a wide range ofbiologic activities.
