Background
This gene encodes a nuclear transcription factor thatbelongs to the NK-linked or NK-like (NKL) subfamily of homeoboxgenes. The encoded protein is required for normal development ofthe spleen during embryogenesis. This protein is also involved inspecification of neuronal cell fates. Ectopic expression of thisgene due to chromosomal translocations is associated with certainT-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemias. Alternate splicing results inmultiple transcript variants.
