Background
Calpains are a family of cytosolic calcium-activatedcysteine proteases involved in a variety of cellular processesincluding apoptosis, cell division, modulation ofintegrin-cytoskeletal interactions, and synaptic plasticity (Dearet al., 2000 [PubMed 10964513]). CAPN13 belongs to the calpainlarge subunit family.
