Background
Vesicle mediated protein sorting plays an important rolein segregation of intracellular molecules into distinct organelles.Genetic studies in yeast have identified more than 40 vacuolarprotein sorting (VPS) genes involved in vesicle transport tovacuoles. This gene encodes the human homolog of yeast class CVps16 protein. The mammalian class C Vps proteins are predominantlyassociated with late endosomes/lysosomes, and like their yeastcounterparts, may mediate vesicle trafficking steps in theendosome/lysosome pathway. Two transcript variants encodingdifferent isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided byRefSeq].
