|Other Names||Regulator of nonsense transcripts 1, 364-, ATP-dependent helicase smg-2, Nonsense mRNA reducing factor 1, Up-frameshift suppressor 1 homolog, smg-2|
|Target/Specificity||The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP1970b was selected from the C-term region of human Smg-2. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.|
|Format||The synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml deionized water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.|
|Storage||Maintain refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20°C.|
|Precautions||This product is for research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.|
|Function||RNA-dependent helicase and ATPase required for nonsense- mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stop codons. Is recruited to mRNAs upon translation termination and undergoes a cycle of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation; its phosphorylation appears to be a key step in NMD. The formation of an smg-2-3-4 surveillance complex is believed to activate NMD (By similarity).|

Provided below are standard protocols that you may find useful for product applications.
Smg-2 eliminates the production of nonsense-containing RNAs. This protein is phosphorylated probably by smg-1. Smg-3 and smg-4 are required for phosphorylation.
